The Passeig de Gràcia Association presented the new Passeig de Gracia Christmas Lighting at an event that took place today at Fundació Tapies. Barcelona’s most important commercial axis is premiering new lighting, which will cover the sky with hundreds of lights to create a magical atmosphere. The aim is, on the one hand, to create an enchanting ambiance and, on the other, to encourage trade in one of the most unique and internationally prestigious avenues.

The proposal was designed by Ximénez, the most important decorative and artistic lighting company in Spain and is inspired by the coziness and warmth of a homestead with the aim of recreating them in the heart of Barcelona. The installation is complemented with crystalline-effect butterflies, a symbol of good wishes and omens that, thanks to the dichroic material of their wings, will make it possible to enjoy the lighting during daylight hours. The butterflies will change color according to the viewer’s point of view, creating a unique experience, both during the day and at night.

Christmas is the time of year when there is more traffic in the city, both in terms of local population and tourists. In this sense, the president of the Association, Luís Sans, has declared that “we want to dynamize our avenue and attract customers, but we also want to become a reference for the illusion and the magic of Christmas in Barcelona”.

The new Christmas lighting includes 355 rows in the central stroller lane, with 9 light strips of 5 meters accompanied by 70 butterflies. On the sidewalks, the installation is completed with 80 butterflies, in this case with 6 light cords each.

The Christmas lighting in Barcelona will be available from November 28th on, one week later than last year. In exchange, this year the lighting will be turned on one hour later and the switch-off will also be extended: the lights will shine from 17:30 to 00:00 hours, with the aim of also promoting the visits to restaurants. In total, the lights will be switched on for 40 days, for a total of 257 hours.

Passeig de Gracia is one of the most visited places by locals and Catalans to enjoy Christmas and shopping, especially thanks to its wide and varied offer. Once again, this year it will welcome thousands of visitors from the rest of Catalonia, Spain and different parts of the world.
