Roadshow in China
Last October the Passeig de Gràcia Association was present in a roadshow organized by Turisme de Barcelona and visited three of the major Chinese cities: Shanghai, Chengdu (Shenzhen) and Guangzhou (Canton) .
Training sessions were held on the trends of the Chinese tourism market and different workshops where there was the opportunity to hold meetings with representatives of high-level travel agencies in the country. There was talk about the Passeig de Gràcia and its varied offer in accommodation, gastronomy and culture.
The Chinese tourist spends a lot on their trips (2017 data: € 2,481 per day per person), more than Russians and Americans.
During the roadshow, a total of 115 contacts of travel agents and airlines were got. Many were interested in the Passeig de Gràcia offer. The location of the different establishments was shown and it was very positive because they all included in their travel offers a stop on the Passeig de gracia for a duration of at least half a day.
The Chinese tourist is a “digital” tourist: he introduces his opinion on social networks, especially through Wechat. This social network is used by Chinese people to inform themselves, communicate, prepare their trips, etc. The type of tourism that comes to Barcelona is changing a lot: there are more and more individual travelers, urbanites, younger people (especially belonging to the Millenial generation) and with greater purchasing power, interested in fashion and living unique experiences when traveling.
It has been possible to obtain many more contacts thanks to the course that they have published in Wechat in collaboration with the China Travel Academy. It is a training course in Barcelona which also includes the Passeig de Gràcia, aimed at all Chinese travel agents (from all over the country) and who can travel through the social network.
