On june the 30th the Asociación Amics del Passeig de Gràcia awarded the Asociación del Concurso Internacional de Música Maria Canals de Barcelona with the Amics del Passeig de Gracia award, a recognition to people, companies or institutions that had carried improvements or had added international value to Passeig de Gràcia. They’ve been awarded for the project “El Passeig de Gràcia Porta Cua”, an action that consists of placing 10 gran pianos along Paseo de Gràcia, for everyone to play.
We’ve talked to Mariona Carulla, president of the association to learn more about the Project:
For those who don’t know the association, which is the main objective of Concurso Internacional de Música Maria Canals? /p>
It’s a piano contest where people from all around the world participate. The contest will celebrate it’s 63th edition and it all started with the aim to disclose the knowledge of the piano, the fact that we put pianos on the streets it’s just a social and educational action for the people to play the pianos, and we also distribute some on towns for the kids on school to play, furthermore there’s always someone ready to play the piano on those hours when no one is playing it.
What has meant to receive the Amics del Passeig de Gràcia award?
We are really grateful, we make this things without expecting anything back and seeing the association that represents the people and business that are on the Passeig de Gràcia has warded us it’s a pleasure, it helps to understand that our actions have value.
You’ve received the award for “El Passeig de Gràcia Porta Cua”, can you explain us a Little bit more about this action?
When we thought about “El Passeig de Gràcia Porta Cua” what we were thinking was to create something big and important, and we thought what better place top putt he pianos tan in one of the most important streets of Barcelona, at one point we even thought about placing the pianos vertically.
Besides “Passeig de Gràcia Porta Cua”, what other activities are done ?
A lot of people have never ever seen a grand piano and with this main objective we decided to place pianos on the streets, to get people to know the piano. But we don’t just only put pianos on Passeig de Gracia, we have place pianos on the subway, parks, streets named after musicians… We just want to commit to the social and educational dissemination of this instrument.
