“Gaudí’s Pedrera: The origins”: the extraordinary night show at La Pedrera
The tour starts at the hall where everything begins to take shape and get meaning. Videos and projections are combined with the story of the project creation, building and later development of La Pedrera, finished in 1912 and created by Antoni Gaudí at the request of businessman Mr. Milà. It is considered the most decorated, modern and inspiring artist’s architectural work. Its massive façade of undulating forms transgress preconceived styles of the Barcelona’s Eixample and the characteristic chamfers of the area. Moreover, its windows and balconies also marked a change in the usual building structure of the time.
The show continues at the 5th plant: the attic. This space a spectacular miniature of the building is exposed, as well as other visual materials and screens backlighted by projectors, where visitors also can find Gaudí’s other masterpieces such Casa Batlló, Sagrada Familia or Park Güell. In the other band, there is a sample of different chairs with an entirely modernist design, created with top quality materials and several elements from nature that inspired Gaudí to carry out his creations.
Definitely, the roof of La Pedrera is the culminating point of the visit, where music and colour take the leader role of the show. The projected videomapping at the different “baladots” of the roof is full of sensitivity and magic that does not leave indifferent to any visitor. Finally, on the ground floor at Provenza’s courtyard, a glass of cava and a light meal ends the evening at one of the most important and extraordinary buildings of the city of Barcelona.
