Participate in the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week in Barcelona
On Saturday October 17th the central area of Paseo de Gracia will be closed due to the Car Free Day activity.
During the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week, from October 11th till the 18th, Barcelona hosts the Bike Week and the Car Free Day activities, both aimed to reflect the current model of mobility and promote more sustainable options.
One of the activities included in the program is the Car Free Day, to be celebrated on Saturday, October 17th. The goal is to promote sustainable mobility, a city where citizens are protagonists, where everyone can enjoy a public space and a greener city. That’s why some areas will be temporarily closed to traffic and dedicated to different types of activities, to raise public awareness about the massive and indiscriminate use of private vehicles and promote new and more sustainable ways of transport. Because of this activity, traffic will be cut at the central lane of Diagonal, between Paseo de Gracia and Paseo San Juan, but cars will be allowed at the side lanes and the streets crossing the Diagonal Avenue.
The Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week has been celebrated every year on a European level since 2002. Last year over 2.000 cities and towns across Europe joined the celebration, and 260 were from Catalonia. The main objectives of these actions are: promoting a greener city on a human scale, review possible changes of public space usage and improve air quality by reducing pollution.
Come and participate in these planned activities to celebrate the Sustainable and Safe Mobility Week in Barcelona!
