A unique gastronomic concept in Barcelona is that offered by El Nacional, a multispace with more than 3,000 square meters of surface, located in a centenary place that has previously been a theater café, fur factory, car dealership and private garage.

And where El Nacional is now, in the middle of the Eixample urbanization – in the last third of the 19th century – was the so-called Teatro Español, designed by the architect Antoni Rovira i Trias and inaugurated on May 21, 1870. Burned in 1889, It was rebuilt.

Later, the space hosted a textile factory dedicated to tanning leather for shoes, the Modern Franco-Spanish Shop. And later it hosted a high-end car business.

It is also commented -although it is possible that it is a legend because no documents have been found to certify it- that after the Civil War the Barcelona City Council used it as a food collection point. Later, and until 2013, the building was a private garage.

Finally, on October 25, 2014, El Nacional was inaugurated by Subirats Bureu and businessman Joan Canadell, who created Ocio Gastronónico Barcelona S.L. in order to recover this emblematic space. The originality of El Nacional lies in the fact that it has different spaces where you can enjoy traditional recipes from the Peninsula, made with high quality products. Thus, the place has four spaces: a meat restaurant, a fish restaurant, a tapas restaurant and a deli restaurant. There are also four bars, specializing in beer, wine, cava and cocktails.
