Visit Passeig de Gràcia thanks to 5G Technology and VR Glasses
During the last Smart City Expo World Congress, held in Barcelona from November 19th to 21st, Passeig de Gràcia served as a perfect example of the use of new technologies applied to real life.
Thanks to a project developed jointly by the Mediapro Group, Orange and the 5G Barcelona initiative, it was possible to enjoy a visit to the most emblematic stores and places in Passeig de Gràcia in a much more immersive way, thanks to VR technology.
By using special glasses, visitors could obtain extra information as they passed through the different establishments in Passeig de Gràcia. To give two examples that could be observed, when passing in front of La Pedrera, it was possible to see videos of the building or even book a visit online. And in the stores, they could even make purchases through the web or see a certain brand’s catalog, as well as learn about the details of the building where it is located.
This test could be done thanks to the 5G coverage that Orange installed in Passeig de Gràcia, which promises instant access to the Internet and the large amount of data needed to enjoy technologies such as augmented reality.
This is an experiment that aims to bring to the end user this technology that promises to be integrated into our lives over the next five years, and that will allow us to enjoy experiences that mix the real with the virtual in a way never before seen.
