Black Battle 2
On November 24th, coinciding with Black Friday, from 20h to 22h in Paseo de Gracia with Consell de Cent has been the chosen date by GCAC (Art Galleries Union of Catalonia) to celebrate the Black Battle, a battle to claim the art, stimulate the taste for art and reward artistic talents. A performance that eliminates the usual hierarchies in this component of culture and, on the contrary, becomes a discussion between the actors who participate daily in the artistic sector: galleries, collectors, dealers, museums, press and government.
The battles will be divided in several rounds, in which in 20 minutes they will have to express their idea related to the concept Black Friday in the Art, in a black cloth using colored inks. As in every battle, two symbolic sides are confronted:
– Supporters take art to street audiences and break the walls of art galleries: Pro Black Friday in Art.
– Those who consider that art must be kept in the walls of museums and galleries offering a hermetic and snobbery spaces: Against Black Friday in Art.
The final objective is the creation of a social and visual canvas on a date marked in the Spanish commercial calendar and that, despite appearing to be a threat to the culture sector, is taken as an opportunity to reconcile all the actors of the art, thus, getting art to play the role of “popular hero”.
This action will be followed by a guided tour through participating galleries, from 24 to 27 November and a party on November 25 at 7 pm, with gallery members, friends of the sector, collaborators and artists who participated in the Black Battle.
