New exhibition of the jewels of Modernism at La Pedrera
The exhibition “Modernism. Art, workshops, industries” provides an overview of this movement focused on applied and decorative arts and in artistic trades that played an important role.
From 8 October 8th, 2015 until February 8th, 2016 this exhibition can be visited at la Pedrera, gathering a selection of over a hundred items – from furniture, hydraulic flooring, stained glass, textiles and jewelry, as well as abundant documentation and photographs from the period – from fifty public and private collections.
The main objective of this exhibition is vindicating the work of many craft workshops and various industries that contributed to implement it, by restoring old procedures and introducing new materials and techniques to make better and more competitive products. On the other hand, it is also important to highlight the incorporation of modern commercial distribution systems to meet a growing demand.
The exhibition offers a tour through the main arts, trades and industries of Modernism, showing their integration into a single ideal of beauty that wants to overcome historical styles taking nature as a model.
