With the arrival of autumn, products such as mushrooms, chestnuts and eggplants take the center stage in the menus of the restaurants of Passeig de Gràcia, whose chefs always focus on seasonal cuisine. Find out which dishes you just can’t miss this autumn in Barcelona.

The autumnal products par excellence are mushrooms, which are ever-present in rural cuisine and are generally highly valued in Catalan gastronomy. In Catalonia there is a wide range of mushrooms that are usually prepared in many different ways – they may be used as the main ingredient of a dish or as garnishment in casseroles, sauces and salads.

It is, indeed, red pine mushrooms (probably the most popular variety of mushroom in Catalonia) and bacon that make up the perfect match at the Pur Restaurant of chef Nandu Jubany, who holds a Michelin star and is also the gastronomic advisor to Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona. As the name of the restaurant implies, this dish stands out due to the purity and simplicity of its flavors, and lets us enjoy this exquisite combination.

Veal with mushrooms, mushroom warm salad, rice & broth with rabbit and mushrooms, golden chanterelle pie and scrambled mushrooms are some other delicious recipes that we can prepare to enjoy this product, so typical in autumn – dishes that highlight even more its value as a unique item in Catalan gastronomy.

Cannelloni are some of the most traditional Catalan dishes in this time of year, and in restaurants such as Café Vienés – restaurant/bar of the Hotel Casa Fuster – they prepare them in the most traditional style, just as catalonians used to in the early 20th century. It was exactly back then when it became popular to prepare this dish the day after Christmas – a tradition that has been maintained until present day.

There are multiple options, you can also try the ones prepared by renowned chef Carme Ruscalleda (holder of seven Michelin stars), using her traditional recipe, at Blanc – a restaurant located inside the Hotel Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

Meat is another dish that makes a comeback once the summer is over, and at restaurants like Solomillo or LomoAlto they have earned the right to claim that they prepare them in the most delicious and appetizing way. These places are a must for meat lovers travelling to Barcelona this season.

Autumn is also a great time for vegetables such as zucchini and eggplant, which become the star ingredient of many of the restaurants at Passeig de Gràcia. At the Monument Hotel we can find two offerings led by Martín Berasategui, where a fresh cuisine, inspired by Mediterranean gastronomy with hints of the Basque Country, is always on the menu. Lasarte Barcelona and Oria – holders of three and one Michelin Star, respectively – are, without a doubt, two places that you must consider if you want to enjoy an exceptional autumn cuisine in Barcelona.

We should not forget about desserts, which must include the panellets (sweets prepared with almonds that are usually consumed around All Saints’ Day). In addition to the already mentioned Lasarte, where its head pastry chef Xavi Donnay always delights us with his creations, another ideal place to enjoy this exquisite sweet is Farga Shop & Restaurant. It is one of the most traditional pastry shops in Barcelona and, for over 60 years, it has prepared some of the most typical sweets and cakes in the city. The store, located at Avenida Diagonal 391, is always among the most visited, and having breakfast there on the weekend is a tradition that every citizen of Barcelona has engaged in one time or another.

If you want to enjoy a good dessert that is typical of autumn in Barcelona, you can also opt for The Bistrot Santa Eulalia, where the delicatessen of head pastry chef Enric Rosich stands out. Its location on the first floor of a historical fashion store of the city envolves it with even more charm.

Along Passeig de Gràcia you will find other offerings tailored to all tastes and wallets, with restaurants and hotels where a typical Catalan gastronomy is the hallmark. And as dictated by one of the commandments of the Mediterranean cuisine, fresh and seasonal products are the main ingredients of the dishes that you’ll be able to enjoy along one of the most renowned avenues in the world when it comes to gastronomy.

Enjoying Barcelona this autumn will no doubt be a real treat!
