Casa Amatller opens to the public
Casa Amatller is the only of these three houses that still has its original pieces of furniture and that has been kept the way it was at the beginning of the 20th century, when Puig i Cadafalch built it. For now, only concerted and guided 50 minutes visits will take place each hour, touring the main floor where the employer and his family lived.
On the ground floor, there is the magnificent jewelry Bagués – Masriera now offers exquisite collections that are hallmarks of contemporary styling (Bagués) and Art Nouveau (Masriera).
Before restoration, the first floor held the Library and Archive of the Institute Amatller of Hispanic Art headquarters, that served as a shelter for art students and historians. Almost five million euros have been invested in this restoration, fruit of an agreement between the Barcelona City Hall, the Regional Ministry of Culture, the Montemadrid Foundation and the Private Foundation Institute Amatller of Hispanic Art.
There is no doubt that with this rehabilitation Barcelona recovers an extraordinary piece of its modernist architectural heritage for the enjoyment of the citizens of Barcelona and visitors.
