The hotel occupies an impressive urban mansion of Neo-Gothic inspiration, the Enric Batlló House, which was built between the years 1895 and 1896 by the pre-Modernista architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas on commission from the wealthy industrialist Enric Batlló. The combination of design spaces and Modernista elements, the emphasis on light and the mixture of fine materials and textures make the Monument Hotel a timeless grand luxe establishment with its own very special personality.
