It’s already been twenty-five years since the life and work of painter Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, as well as other artists, are exposed at its foundation, next to Paseo de Gracia (Aragó, 255).

It was in 1990 when the artist decided to open the doors to one of the most important museums and landmarks of modern and contemporary art in Barcelona. Due to this event the foundation presents the exhibition Tàpies. Artist Collection, a compilation of his own creations and works by other painters, with emphasis on lesser known or unpublished pieces of a surreal and dreamlike inspiration.

The tour begins with works of artists who are at the basis of his training, such as Paul Klee, Joan Miró and Max Ernst -– from which direct referrals of Tàpies early works can be noticed – and Pablo Picasso, Kurt Schwitters, Wassily Kandinsky, Duchamp and Hans Arp, all of them artists that Tàpies felt attracted to. Then visitors can see a selection of works by contemporary artists that convey a feeling of affinity, such as Jean Dubuffet or American artist Franz Kline, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Sam Francis and Robert Motherwell.

The exhibition includes the screening of Maria Luisa Borras Antoni Tàpies unpublished documentary, produced in 1981, presenting an overview of his works and the artistic, literary and cultural references of the artist, in addition to his historical and personal context.

For this special occasion, the museum has decided to give a free entrance to all those who become 25 years old in 2015, plus, until January 10th, 2016, the first Sunday of every month the general public can visit the exhibition free of charge.
